Anchored Vessel and Anchor Ball

Explanation:

Navigation
An anchor ball need NOT be exhibited by an anchored vessel if she is anchored in a designated anchorage area.

In maritime navigation, an anchor ball is a spherical shape displayed by a vessel to indicate that it is anchored. The purpose of exhibiting an anchor ball is to alert other vessels in the vicinity that the vessel is stationary and its movement may be restricted.

However, according to International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS), an anchored vessel does not need to display an anchor ball if it is anchored in a designated anchorage area. Designated anchorage areas are predetermined zones where vessels are authorized to anchor, and displaying an anchor ball in such areas is not mandatory as it is assumed that vessels in these areas are already anchored.
